Wike Accuses Amaechi of Blocking Electronic Vote Transmission

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, accused Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transport, of preventing President Muhammadu Buhari from approving the electronic transmission of election results. During a media chat, Wike claimed that Amaechi, who is now an opposition leader, exhibited double standards regarding the current demand for a compulsory clause for electronic transmission in the electoral act.

Wike highlighted that Amaechi had previously persuaded Buhari not to sign a provision that would allow for electronic transmission of results. He questioned why Amaechi was now complaining about the provisions of the electoral act, asserting that the act does not prohibit electronic transmission and aims to prevent disenfranchisement.

Wike's comments came in the context of a recent joint press conference held by opposition party leaders following the signing of a new law by President Bola Tinubu.
