Amaechi and Obi Positioned to Challenge Tinubu in 2027

Laolu Akande, a former presidential aide, remarked that Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transport, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, are the best positioned to confront Bola Tinubu, the current president-elect, in the 2027 presidential election. Akande made these comments during an appearance on a television program on Friday.

He highlighted the importance of a strong opposition to sustain Nigeria's democracy, especially amid growing debates within opposition circles regarding the upcoming election. Akande noted that Amaechi, who has expressed interest in running for president under the African Democratic Congress, and Obi, who has declared his intent to contest again, should be supported by the opposition.

He warned that failure to present a clear southern candidate could hinder their chances against Tinubu, particularly given the political influence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar within the opposition.
