ADC Urged to Nominate Amaechi, Obi for 2027 Elections

Laolu Akande, who served as an aide to Nigeria's immediate past Vice President, has called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to present strong and experienced southern politicians, specifically Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi, as presidential candidates for the upcoming 2027 general elections. During an interview on a Channel Television program, Akande emphasized the need for the opposition to prepare early to mount a serious challenge against the current President Bola Tinubu.

He highlighted the political credibility and governance experience of both Amaechi and Obi, noting Amaechi's extensive public service record, including his roles as a former governor and minister. Akande argued that presenting credible southern candidates would create a formidable contest against Tinubu, particularly in the southwest region.

He warned that if the opposition fails to unite behind strong candidates, they risk allowing Atiku Abubakar to dominate the political landscape in the 2027 elections.
