Amb. Kenule Nwiya Jnr Threatens NDCCITMA with Lawsuit

Amb. Kenule Nwiya Jnr has initiated a potential ₦1 billion lawsuit against the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA) for alleged trademark infringement concerning the Niger Delta Economic Investment Summit.

Nwiya asserts that the name of the summit is formally registered as a trademark in 2023 and was publicly unveiled in 2024, alongside a memorandum of understanding reportedly signed by the Minister of Niger Delta Development. He expressed concerns over NDCCITMA's plans to host a similar event scheduled for May 19-21, 2026, in Port Harcourt, which could create confusion due to the similar naming.

Nwiya has instructed his legal representatives, led by Lord Amachre, to issue a cease and desist notice to NDCCITMA, urging them to refrain from using the summit name. He emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in Nigeria's growing investment promotion space.
