Tinubu Appoints Fani-Kayode as Ambassador to South Africa

President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Femi Fani-Kayode as Nigeria's ambassador-designate to South Africa. This decision comes amid earlier reports suggesting that Fani-Kayode had rejected an ambassadorial position in Germany.

Fani-Kayode dismissed these claims, stating that he did not decline the German post but rather requested a reassignment. He expressed a preference for South Africa due to personal reasons and a desire for diplomatic experience outside European states, as he has lived much of his life in Europe.

Fani-Kayode emphasized South Africa's economic strength and its proximity to Nigeria as factors influencing his decision. The request for redeployment was approved after consideration by the foreign minister, Yusuf Tuggar.
