Brandon Clarke, a forward for the Memphis Grizzlies, died at the age of 29, as confirmed by the team in a brief statement on May 12, 2023. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Clarke was selected 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft and made an immediate impact, earning Rookie of the Year honors in his debut season. He signed a four-year, $50 million contract extension in 2022, reflecting the team's long-term faith in his development and leadership.

However, injuries disrupted the latter part of his career, as he played only six games during the 2023-2024 season and managed just 64 appearances in the following campaign due to persistent calf and knee problems. His death occurred six weeks after his arrest in Arkansas on charges including possession of a controlled substance and fleeing from a vehicle at high speed.
