Amnesty International Condemns Deadly Maiduguri Attacks

Amnesty International condemned the deadly attacks in Maiduguri, Nigeria, which occurred on Monday, resulting in at least 12 fatalities and 50 injuries. The attacks, attributed to Boko Haram, involved a suicide bomber detonating an explosive in a busy area of the city, including locations such as the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and a market.

Amnesty described the attacks as vicious and unlawful, highlighting the complete disregard for human life, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims break their fast. The organization noted that this incident is part of a worrying trend of increased assaults on civilians by Boko Haram since January 2026, including village attacks and the abduction of women and girls.

Amnesty International urged the insurgent group to cease targeting civilians and called on Nigerian authorities to take urgent measures to protect the populace and prevent further attacks.
