Amnesty International’s Red Flag on Nigeria

Amnesty International's latest report on Nigeria highlights the alarming levels of insecurity and human rights abuses in the South East zone over the past five years. The organization criticized the Nigerian government for its failure to address the issues, citing thousands of deaths and numerous violations of citizens' rights.

The report, titled "Decade of Impunity: Attacks and Unlawful Killings in Southeast Nigeria," documents unlawful killings, torture, enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and displacement by various state actors in the region. The Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, Isa Sanusi, emphasized the need for the government to uphold its constitutional and international human rights obligations by ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice and victims have access to justice.

The report is based on interviews with 100 individuals, research missions in several states, and highlights the severe impact of insecurity and violence on the region's stability and development.
