Nigerian authorities must do more to protect right to life – Amnesty International

Amnesty International has called on Nigerian authorities to do more to protect the right to life of citizens in the country. The human rights group highlighted a week of deadly attacks across Nigeria, with at least 65 people killed in various incidents.

Particularly alarming were the attacks on a mosque in Katsina State where 50 people were killed and 60 abducted, as well as a separate incident in Plateau State where gunmen killed 15 farmers and displaced 200 people. Amnesty International emphasized that the escalating violence, abductions, and killings in Nigeria have left people feeling unsafe and vulnerable.

The group stressed that the Nigerian government has an obligation under international human rights law, regional treaties, and the country's constitution to protect the rights of all people without discrimination.
