INEC Chair Amupitan Calls for Integrity in Upcoming Elections

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amupitan, addressed staff regarding the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, emphasizing their significance as a major test for the 2027 general elections. In a statement issued by Chief Press Secretary Adedayo Oketola, Amupitan called on staff to renew their commitment to credible electoral processes, particularly in light of the end of Ramadan.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining professionalism and ethics, urging a zero-tolerance stance against misconduct within the commission. Amupitan noted that the elections serve as a litmus test for INEC's ongoing reforms and the adoption of technological innovations, such as the bimodal voter accreditation system and the INEC result viewing portal, to enhance transparency and credibility.

He also mentioned recent initiatives aimed at improving staff welfare, including the reintroduction of iftar gatherings to boost morale and focus.
