Mahwel Defends Amupitan Against Dalung's Allegations

Mahwel, a legal scholar and member of the Faculty of Law at the University of Jos, has defended Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), against allegations of academic misconduct made by former Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon.

Solomon Dalung. Mahwel, a 2009 graduate of the university, described the claims against Amupitan as false and misleading.

He explained that the issues during the 2009 academic session resulted from administrative lapses involving non-academic staff, not from any wrongdoing by Amupitan. Mahwel noted that Amupitan was not the dean at the time Dalung pursued postgraduate studies and emphasized the importance of maintaining institutional integrity.

He urged public figures to exercise restraint in their statements, warning that unverifiable claims could undermine public confidence in national institutions. Mahwel concluded by reaffirming Amupitan's professional integrity and calling for reliance on verified facts rather than political narratives.
