NDLEA Links Club Houses to Rising Drug Abuse in Kwara

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has linked the proliferation of club houses around Kwara State University in Malete to rising drug abuse among students and youths. On Tuesday, Kwara State Commander Fatima Popoola stated that the agency has made numerous arrests related to the abuse of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, describing the situation as alarming.

Popoola noted that young people are abusing laughing gas at parties and social gatherings, which affects their behavior. She expressed concern over landlords and house agents who unknowingly aid drug trafficking by renting to non-students who use these premises for drug distribution.

Popoola revealed that some students, including females, have been arrested for selling drugs, often to fund their education. She commended KWASU for implementing the Federal Government’s drug integrity testing policy, being the first institution in Kwara State to do so, and acknowledged the university's efforts to combat the drug problem in the community.
