Tobi Amusan Leads Nigeria's Team for African Championships

Tobi Amusan, the world record holder, will lead Nigeria's 45-athlete contingent at the African Athletics Championships scheduled for May 12-17 at the University of Ghana Sports Complex in Accra. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has unveiled a squad comprising 25 female and 20 male athletes.

Amusan headlines the women's squad alongside Rosemari Chukwuma, who is noted as one of the fastest female sprinters this season. Amusan is expected to compete in the women's 100m hurdles, while the women's 4x100m relay team will feature athletes including Adaobi Tabugbo, Janet Sundai, and Miracl Ezechukwu.

The men's sprint team includes 2020 Olympic finalist Enoch Adegoke and Usheorits Itsekiri. Notable absentees from the women's squad include four-time African long jump champion Ese Brume and former discus champion Chioma Onyekwere.

The championships will serve as a significant platform for Nigerian athletes to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in July.
