Tobi Amusan Leads Nigeria's Team to African Championships

Tobi Amusan will lead Nigeria's 45-athlete squad to the African Championships in Accra, Ghana, from May 12 to 17, as confirmed by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN). The squad comprises 25 women and 20 men.

Amusan is set to compete in the women's 100m hurdles alongside Adaobi Tabugbo, Janet Sundai, and Rosemary Chukwuma. The women's team also includes Patience Okon George in the 400m, Ruth Usoro in long jump, and hammer thrower Oyesade Olatoye.

Notably absent from the squad are long jump star Ese Brume and discus thrower Chioma Onyekwere, who is exploring weightlifting ahead of the Commonwealth Games. The men's side features sprinter Favour Ashe and shot put powerhouse Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, with a sprint squad that includes Enoch Adegoke, Usheorits Itsekiri, Chidera Ezeakor, and others.

A significant inclusion is decathlon national record holder Jami Schlueter, who will make his championship debut after switching allegiance from Great Britain, where he recently set a national indoor heptathlon record of 5,871 points in Indianapolis.
