Delta State Governor Allocates N7 Billion for LGAs

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has announced a groundbreaking allocation of N7 billion to each of the 25 local government areas (LGAs) in the 2026 budget, aimed at fostering grassroots development. This allocation is part of a broader strategy to empower local communities and address critical infrastructure needs in health and education.

The total budget for local-level projects is N175 billion, reflecting a significant increase from previous years, including N1 billion per LGA in 2024 and N2.1 billion in 2025. The budget includes N3 billion specifically for expanding the rural road network and N4 billion for health and education initiatives.

This unprecedented funding approach is designed to enhance local governance and ensure that development is community-driven, contrasting with practices that undermine local autonomy. Charl Aniagwu, the Commissioner for Information, emphasized that this initiative aims to improve rural connectivity and stimulate local economies, addressing long-standing challenges faced by rural communities in Delta State.
