Anambra Agency Arrests Mother for Selling Baby for ₦2.9M

The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency, in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, arrested a mother identified as Miss Chioma and her accomplice, Precious Uchenna, for selling Chioma's baby for ₦2.9 million in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area. During interrogation, Chioma revealed that shortly after giving birth, Uchenna, described as a "prophetess," took custody of the baby and facilitated the illegal sale.

Chioma received ₦300,000 from the transaction, while Uchenna kept the remaining balance. Uchenna claimed her actions were intended to help Chioma, who faced difficulties, but could not justify retaining most of the money.

Monday Nwokoye, Managing Director of the Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency, stated that the arrests followed intelligence reports of illegal adoption. He condemned the act as child trafficking disguised under religion and urged public vigilance against such crimes.
