The Anambra State Police Command has prevented a young mother from selling her newborn baby girl. The intervention took place in Igbariam, located in Anambra East Local Government Area, after officers acting on credible intelligence successfully stopped the alleged transaction on June 19.

According to a statement released by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, police officers attached to the Oyi Division moved swiftly to secure both the mother and her infant daughter. The action was triggered by a report filed by an alert member of the public who became aware of the situation.

Officers located the young mother and newborn in Igbariam and took both into custody. Following the intervention, the mother and child were reunited with their family members.

The police statement indicated that arrangements were made to ensure the pair receive appropriate care and support . Preliminary findings revealed that the woman had concealed her pregnancy and delivery from her parents, though sources do not detail what prompted the alleged sale attempt or what became of any related investigation.

The operation was carried out by officers under the command of the Anambra State Police Command, with coordination from its Oyi Division headquarters. Police attributed the successful intervention to acting on credible intelligence and the willingness of a concerned citizen to report the matter to authorities.
