Mother and Accomplice Arrested for N2.9M Baby Sale

The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency, in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, arrested a mother, identified as Miss Chioma, and her accomplice, Precious Uchenna, for selling a baby for N2.9 million in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area. During interrogation, Chioma revealed that Uchenna, described as a "prophetess," took custody of the baby and facilitated the illegal sale, from which Chioma received only N300,000.

Uchenna claimed her actions were to assist Chioma, who faced difficulties, but could not justify keeping the majority of the sale proceeds. Monday Nwokoye, Managing Director of the Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency, condemned the act, emphasizing that no individual has the authority to transfer child custody without government involvement.

He urged the public to report suspicious activities to combat child trafficking and maintain community safety.
