Suspect Confesses to Selling Child for N1.3 Million

Onom, a suspect arrested by the Nigeria Police Force's Vicious Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Onitsha, Anambra State, confessed to selling his friend's child for N1.3 million as part of a child trafficking scheme. He admitted to participating in multiple child trafficking operations, claiming to have earned a total of N3.6 million.

Onom stated that financial hardship and losing his job as a private driver led him to contact individuals involved in the illegal trade. He later became deeply involved in the network, forming a relationship with a woman allegedly coordinating the operations alongside him.

Onom revealed that the movement of children across states was organized through telephone instructions and payments were transferred directly to bank accounts upon completion of assignments. During a recent operation, he was arrested while lodging in a hotel in Onitsha with two children awaiting contact from individuals expecting to receive them.

The police are continuing investigations to verify Onom's claims and identify other members of the trafficking syndicate.
