Anambra State Cuts Workers' Salaries Over Sit-at-Home Order

The Anambra State Government has announced a pro-rata salary payment adjustment for civil servants in response to a sit-at-home protest declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra. Workers who failed to report for duty on designated Mondays have faced significant deductions from their February salaries.

Reports indicate that some employees, such as those at the Jerom Udoji State Secretariat in Awka, received drastically reduced payments, with one colleague reporting a salary of only N3,500 after deductions from an expected N80,000. The Ministry of Information confirmed that the salary cuts were intended to penalize those who did not work on the specified Mondays, as employees were instructed to clock in on those days.

Dr. Law Mefor, a commission representative, stated that the deductions were based on attendance records, which showed that many did not clock in, leading to the substantial salary reductions.
