Anambra State Threatens Suspension for Sit-at-Home Students

The Anambra State Government, led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has announced disciplinary measures against students who adhere to the Monday sit-at-home order, which has disrupted academic activities in the region. Commissioner for Education, Chuma Udeh, stated that students who miss classes without valid reasons will face suspension.

This decision aims to restore normalcy in the educational sector following the governor's directive. Udeh visited two private schools in Onitsha, including Mount Oliv School and Spring Field Academy, to discuss the issue with school management.

During the visit, she noted that while some parents have begun complying with the government's directives, others remain hesitant due to security concerns. The state government has summoned school managers to explain student absences and has made it clear that non-compliance will no longer be tolerated.

The policy is effective immediately across both public and private schools in the state. Additionally, the state Ministry of Education is overseeing the conduct of the 2026 transit placement examination across various centers.
