Anambra Dismantles Shrine; Native Doctor Sentenced to 11 Months

The Anambra State Government demolished a shrine associated with native doctor Chidozi Nwangwu, also known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, located in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area. This action followed a judgment delivered by the State High Court in Awka on Friday, where Justice Jude Obiora sentenced Nwangwu to 11 months in prison for his involvement in ritual practices deemed illegal.

The demolition was carried out by the state security outfit Agunechemba, under the supervision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo's special adviser on community security, Ben Emeakayi. The shrine contained various native pots, photographs, and objects, which were dismantled and set ablaze.

Nwangwu was convicted on one count, with six out of ten charges struck out by the court. He is expected to denounce ritual practices publicly upon completing his sentence.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Anambra State Government to combat insecurity linked to native doctors and ritualistic activities.
