Anambra Native Doctor Akwa Okuko Sentenced to Two Years

On February 2025, Nwangwu, a popular native doctor referred to as Akwa Okuko, was sentenced to two years in prison by Justice Jude Obiorah for charges related to kidnapping and money rituals. He was arrested alongside two others, Okocha (known as Onyez Jesu) and Eken, by the Agunechemba Security Outfit.

Nwangwu pleaded guilty to the charges against him and had entered a plea bargain agreement with the Anambra State government, expressing remorse for his actions. The court's judgment, delivered on a Friday, resulted in a concurrent two-year sentence on counts five, six, seven, and eight, while counts two and three were struck out.

Additionally, the court imposed a fine of 20 million naira, contributing to a total of 60 million naira. Nwangwu had already spent 13 months in detention, leaving him with 11 months to serve at the Awka Correctional Centre.

The court declined to accept a plea from his counsel regarding the service term.
