Anambra FA to Honor Ifeanyi Ubah with Novelty Match

The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) is organizing a novelty football match on August 1, 2026, to honor its former chairman, the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, marking the second anniversary of his passing. The match will take place at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium, Ozubulu Road, Nnewi, and is expected to attract football stakeholders, administrators, former players, and admirers of Ubah.

Ralph Chidozie George, Chairman of the ANSFA Media Committee, stated that the event aims to preserve Ubah's sporting legacy, highlighting his transformative tenure from 2016 to 2020, which was marked by significant growth in football development in Anambra State. Ubah introduced the “One Family, One Footballer” initiative, a grassroots program launched during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, aimed at discovering football talents in communities.

He also secured a landmark cooperation agreement between FC Ifeanyi Ubah and West Ham United in August 2016, which was seen as a major step for Nigerian football.
