Anambra Launches Hepatitis Awareness Campaign

Anambra State is intensifying its efforts to combat hepatitis through an awareness campaign, as articulated by Dr. Soludo.

The campaign aligns with the global theme focused on eliminating barriers to prevention, testing, and treatment services. Dr.

Soludo described hepatitis as liver inflammation primarily caused by viral infections, with strains A, B, C, D, and E, noting that B, C, and D pose significant long-term health risks. She highlighted transmission methods, including contaminated food and unsafe medical practices, and warned that many with chronic Hepatitis B and C may remain symptom-free for years.

The First Lady urged Nigerians to maintain good hygiene, consume safe food and water, avoid sharing needles, and seek medical attention for symptoms. She emphasized the importance of Hepatitis B vaccination and routine testing.

Dr. Ben Afam Obidike, representing the Commissioner for Health, encouraged residents to utilize available screening and vaccination services.

The State Hepatitis Desk Officer noted that many infected individuals are unaware of their status, underscoring the need for expanded screening services.
