Anambra State Urges Families to Boost HIV Prevention Efforts

Anambra State has renewed its call for families to play an active role in HIV prevention by encouraging regular discussions about testing and treatment within homes and communities. Dr.

Nkem Okek, the Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), stated that achieving sustainable control of HIV requires collective commitment from families, community leaders, schools, religious institutions, and the media, alongside government interventions. He noted that parents and guardians have a critical responsibility to educate young people about HIV prevention and healthy lifestyle choices.

Community stakeholders are urged to intensify awareness campaigns to curb new infections. Dr.

Okek reaffirmed ANSACA's commitment to strengthening partnerships and expanding public education initiatives aimed at reducing HIV transmission. He encouraged residents of Anambra State to know their HIV status through routine testing and to actively support ongoing efforts to eliminate HIV as a public health threat in the state and throughout Nigeria.
