Soludo Critiques Opposition Ahead of Anambra LG Elections

On Wednesday, Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, criticized major opposition political parties for their decision to abstain from the local government area elections scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026. Speaking at a campaign rally in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area, Soludo attributed the absence of opposition candidates to the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)'s significant victory in the last governorship election, where APGA secured over 70 percent of the votes.

He asserted that local governance in Anambra is functioning effectively, countering criticisms about its performance. Soludo highlighted the importance of the upcoming elections, stating that they are a democratic tradition and that the local government system in Anambra is being developed as a model for governance.

He noted that in 20 out of 21 local government areas, no political party fielded candidates for the chairmanship, indicating a lack of competition. Chief Sylvester Ezeokenwa, the National Chairman of APGA, supported Soludo's statements during the rally.
