Anambra Man Sentenced to Death for Killing Father

On Monday, the Anambra State High Court in Awka sentenced Ifeanyi Anizoba Jnr to death by hanging for the murder of his father, Ifeanyi Anizoba. The judgment was delivered by Justice Chukwudi Okaa, who stated that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The incident occurred on December 24, 2019, in Nodu Village, Awka, Anambra State, following a dispute between the defendant and his father. According to the charge sheet, Ifeanyi Anizoba Jnr pushed his father during an altercation, causing him to hit his head against a wall and lose consciousness.

The defendant left his father unattended for two days without seeking medical assistance, and the body was discovered by family members after neighbors reported a foul odor. The prosecution presented three witnesses, including a police officer and a medical doctor who conducted the autopsy.

The defendant initially did not have legal representation but was later assigned a public defender. The court found that the evidence established that the defendant's actions led to his father's death.
