Man Sentenced to Death for Killing Father in Anambra

Ifeanyi Anizoba Jr. has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Anambra State High Court in Awka for the murder of his father, Ifeanyi Anizoba. The judgment was delivered by Judge Chukwudi Okaa, who found the defendant guilty of the offense after the prosecution, led by Chief State Counsel Chiamaka Chukwuka, proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The incident occurred on December 24, 2019, in Nodu Village, Awka, following a dispute between the father and son. The court heard that during an altercation, the defendant pushed his father, causing him to hit his head against a wall and lose consciousness.

The defendant then left his father unattended for two days without seeking medical assistance, locking him in a room until neighbors raised an alarm due to a foul odor. The body was subsequently discovered by family members.

The prosecution called three witnesses, including a police officer and a medical doctor who conducted the autopsy. The defendant initially represented himself but was later assigned a public defender.

Judge Okaa concluded that the evidence established that the defendant's actions led to the death of the deceased.
