Tricycle Operator Sentenced to Death for Murder in Anambra

On a date not specified, the High Court in Anambra State, presided over by Justice Lauretta Oyeka, sentenced tricycle operator Makua Ezik to death by hanging for the murder of Jude Onwuegbuchunam. Ezik was found guilty of the murder, which occurred on November 17, 2019, along the Oba, Obosi, Nkpor, and Umuoji road.

Ezik, along with gang members, attempted to rob Onwuegbuchunam, who was a passenger on a commercial tricycle. When Onwuegbuchunam resisted and raised an alarm, Ezik and his accomplices fled the scene.

Onwuegbuchunam sustained fatal injuries and died two days later. The prosecution presented five witnesses, including a medical doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination, confirming that the death resulted from injuries sustained during the robbery attempt.

Justice Oyeka noted that the case's circumstances overwhelmingly supported the conviction, leading to the death sentence.
