Anambra NMA Demands Immediate Release of Abducted Doctor

The Anambra State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Edwin Emegakor, who was abducted on May 7, 2026, while attending to patients at Crown Multi Specialist Hospital in Nkpor.

The NMA issued this demand through a communiqué following an emergency general meeting held on Saturday. They urged the Anambra State government and the police command to prioritize Dr.

Emegakor's safety and freedom. The communiqué, signed by Dr.

Princeton Okam and Dr. Obia Ifeanyi, emphasized that if Dr.

Emegakor is not released within 48 hours, the NMA will down tools across the state. The association condemned the recent wave of kidnappings and insecurity, calling for immediate action from government security agencies.

The NMA also acknowledged the efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Dr. Afam Ben Obidik in enhancing healthcare service delivery but stressed the need for effective measures to tackle insecurity in the state.
