Ondo NMA Calls for Action After Nurses' Abduction

The Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has expressed deep concern over the increasing insecurity in the state following the abduction of three nurses from the Ok Ijebu Primary Healthcare Center in Akure. The incident occurred early on Saturday when the nurses were reportedly robbed and abducted by assailants, who later abandoned them in a bush along the Ondo-Akure expressway.

The NMA chairman, Dr. Along Olumuyiwa, stated that the current security situation requires urgent government attention, emphasizing that health workers, whose primary responsibility is to save lives, are increasingly becoming targets for criminals.

The association condemned the attack and called for immediate action from the Ondo State government and security agencies to strengthen security around health institutions. They also recommended the establishment of a stakeholder committee to develop a security master plan and urged for the release of intervention funds to address identified security gaps in healthcare facilities across urban and rural areas.
