NMA Covers Medical Bills for Injured Police in Anambra

On May 10, 2026, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Anambra State paid the medical bills for police personnel who sustained injuries during a rescue operation. This operation was part of a response to a kidnapping incident that occurred on May 7, 2026, involving Dr.

Edwin Emegakor, a medical director at Crown Hospital in Nkpor. The NMA expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Anambra State Police Command, particularly the Rapid Response Anti-Kidnap Unit in Awkuzu, which engaged in a fierce gun duel during the rescue.

The NMA leadership, including Dr. Princeton Okam and Dr.

Ifeanyi Obia, visited the injured officers in the hospital to ensure they received optimal care. The association also expressed concern over the rising insecurity in the state and suspended plans for an industrial action scheduled to commence on May 11, 2026.

They called for strengthened security measures and acknowledged the Nigerian police's efforts in combating crime.
