The Anambra State Police Command has commenced an enforcement operation targeting vehicles operating with concealed, altered, or unregistered number plates across the state. The crackdown, led by the Command's leadership, aims to strengthen security measures and prevent criminal activities that rely on untraceable vehicles.
Vehicle owners and operators are being directed to ensure their plates are properly registered and clearly visible. The operation follows a nationwide directive issued by the Inspector General of Police to all state commands.
Similar enforcement exercises have been launched in other states including Adamawa and Kogi. The police stated that vehicles with obscured, defaced, or missing registration details will be impounded as part of the coordinated effort to enhance public safety and improve vehicle identification capabilities.
The Anambra command has called on all vehicle owners and users to register their vehicles and display number plates in compliance with regulations. Police officers deployed for the enforcement have been instructed to carry out their duties professionally and in accordance with the law.
The command plans to continue the exercise across all areas of the state. According to the police, unregistered and concealed number plates hinder crime prevention efforts by making it difficult to identify vehicles used in criminal activities.
The enforcement represents part of a broader national initiative to tighten control over vehicle registration and improve security operations across Nigeria's road networks.
