Lagos Police to Enforce Number Plate Regulations from June

The Lagos State Police, under the directive of Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, will commence an enforcement exercise on June 15, 2026, targeting vehicles with obscured number plates. This initiative aims to enhance public safety and prevent criminal activities by ensuring that vehicles are identifiable.

The exercise will be led by the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, and will involve area command divisions to ensure strict compliance within their jurisdictions. Vehicles found violating this directive will be impounded and subjected to thorough investigations according to established laws.

The police emphasized that this proactive security measure is designed to improve the ability of law enforcement agencies to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities and track suspects. Motorists and fleet owners are advised to ensure their vehicles display valid and clearly visible registration number plates and to keep relevant documents readily available for inspection.
