Anambra State Reforms Cooperative Sector for Growth

Anambra State is implementing a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at strengthening cooperative societies across the state to improve access to government intervention funds and develop financial opportunities through international grants. This announcement was made during the 2026 International Cooperative Day celebration held at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat in Awka.

The event featured the Commissioner for Commerce, Nonso Ebeonwu, who represented Governor Charles Soludo, emphasizing the commitment to rebuild the cooperative sector statewide. The reforms include a digital exercise to create a credible and transparent database for registered cooperative societies.

Ebeonwu urged cooperative leaders to embrace unity and transparency as foundational elements for sustainable growth. The state government is also establishing an advisory council to enhance policy coordination.

The initiative aims to enable Anambra cooperatives to benefit from various funding opportunities, including intervention programs from the Bank of Industry. The event attracted key stakeholders, including representatives from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria.
