Anambra Sets 2026 Deadline for C of O Recertification

The Anambra State Government has announced a deadline of December 31, 2026, for landowners to recertify their old Certificates of Occupancy (C of Os). This directive was communicated through a public notice dated September 1, 2026, signed by Mrs. Nkeiru Mokwe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands.

The ministry warned that after the deadline, the old land administration system will be shut down indefinitely, preventing holders of unrecertified C of Os from processing essential transactions such as mortgages, Deeds of Assignment, Certified True Copies (CTCs), and registrations of Irrevocable Powers of Attorney. The recertification process is currently ongoing, and landowners are urged to submit their applications promptly to ensure their records are captured in the Anambra State Geographic Information System (ANAMGIS) database.

The ministry clarified that while the old C of Os will not automatically become invalid on the deadline, failure to recertify will restrict access to specific land transactions.
