Rivers State Governor Fubara Signs N1.84tn Budget Law

Nearly two months after Governor Siminalayi Fubara presented the Rivers State 2026 Appropriation Bill of N1.84 trillion to the State House of Assembly on July 10, 2026, the budget was passed into law on Thursday. The House's deliberations included recommendations from the Committee on Appropriations, which proposed adjustments to the bill.

The budget will be funded through Internally Generated Revenue of N487.6 billion, Federation Account Allocation Committee receipts of N936.052 billion, an opening and closing balance of N48 billion, proposed internal loans of N50 billion, and proceeds from asset sales amounting to N25 billion. Key sector allocations include N262 billion for agriculture, N625.8 billion for the economic sector, N65 billion for law and justice, and N435.4 billion for the social sector.

A contentious N6 billion allocation for Pamo University of Medical Sciences was debated, with concerns over accountability and a request from the Commissioner for Education to increase the allocation to N8 billion. The committee resolved to step down the allocation pending further investigation, and the House passed the budget with the recommended adjustments.
