FAAN Denies Uber Exit Linked to Airport Policies

Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), addressed claims regarding Uber's exit from Nigeria, stating it was a business decision unrelated to FAAN's airport policies. Speaking at the Muritala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, Kuku emphasized that FAAN's primary responsibility is to ensure passenger safety and a seamless travel experience.

Recently, FAAN temporarily halted e-hailing drivers from conducting commercial pick-ups at airports while finalizing license agreements, which led to speculation about the introduction of FAAN's own e-hailing platform, ACHRAMS. Kuku clarified that the restrictions were a response to numerous passenger complaints during the December holiday period regarding unpleasant experiences with e-hailing and car-hire services.

Complaints included intimidation and drivers dropping passengers at unintended locations. Kuku noted that some drivers exploited the airport system by posing as legitimate e-hailing operators.

FAAN's new app aims to improve transparency by allowing passengers to identify car-hire companies and drivers.
