Court to Rule on Jurisdiction in Angwa Rukuba Killings

The Plateau State High Court is scheduled to rule on jurisdiction concerning the Angwa Rukuba killings, with the trial resuming on July 2, 2026. The court session on Wednesday saw Plateau State Director of Civil Litigation, Sabo Longji, informing the court that two defendants had filed a notice of preliminary objection challenging the court's jurisdiction.

The prosecution, represented by President Justice Gedeliah Fwomyon, filed a counter affidavit dated June 29, 2026. The defense, led by M.

Shaba, M. Salihu, and M.

Danlami, highlighted that the counter affidavit was submitted after the prosecution made a fresh application for an extension of time. The court has adjourned the matter to July 15, 2026, while the defendants remain in the custody of the DSS.

The Angwa Rukuba attack, which occurred in late March to early April 2026, resulted in the deaths of 30 individuals, leading to the arrest of suspects including Adamu Isa and Auwalu Abubakar, who face charges of conspiracy, culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and illegal arms dealing.
