Civil Society Leaders Demand New Social Order in Nigeria

A coalition of civil society leaders in Nigeria, represented by ActionAid Nigeria and the Nigeria Social Forum (NSF), has called for a people-centred transformation of the country during the ongoing World Social Forum (WSF) in Cotonou, Benin. The statement, signed by ActionAid Nigeria Country Director Comrade Andrew Mamedu and NSF Chairman Comrade Jaye Gaskia, emphasizes the need for a new Nigeria based on justice, accountability, and inclusion.

The organizations urged global activists and social movements to unite against rising inequality, economic injustice, and threats to civic freedoms. They highlighted Nigeria's challenges, including unemployment, insecurity, and declining civic space, stressing the urgency of these issues.

The coalition called for building cross-border partnerships to influence policy and drive social change, advocating for stronger alliances across West Africa, defending civic freedoms, advancing climate justice, and demanding greater transparency and accountability.
