Customs Seizes N12.8bn in Contraband and Expired Drugs

The Nigeria Customs Service, under the Apapa Area Command led by Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, seized contraband and expired drugs worth N12.8 billion. The operation, disclosed on Tuesday, involved the interception of 1.81 tons of cannabis sativa, commonly known as Canadian loud, concealed in a 40-foot container.

Additionally, two other containers loaded with expired pharmaceutical products, including antibiotics and eye drops with expiration dates ranging from 2021 to 2023, were seized. These products were allegedly intended for relabeling and reintroduction into the Nigerian market, posing serious health and economic risks.

The Customs emphasized that the seizure reflects their commitment to safeguarding the economy and enforcing regulations against drug trafficking and the importation of prohibited expired products. The Apapa command continues to collaborate with relevant security and regulatory agencies to strengthen border control and protect the country's economic interests.
