Customs Seizes N4bn Worth of Contraband in Ogun

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area Command, reported the seizure of contraband items worth N4.628 billion and generated N259.777 million in revenue during the second quarter of the year. Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni briefed newsmen in Idiroko, highlighting a 238% increase in revenue collection compared to the previous period.

The command recorded a total of 146 seizures, which included cannabis sativa, foreign parboiled rice, footwear, and premium motor spirit. Notably, on June 16, 2026, a patrol team intercepted a truck with registration number ENU 660 XY, which was found to be carrying 2,427 pieces of smuggled pneumatic tyres.

Another truck, registered as BKD 796 XB, attempted to evade a stop signal but was apprehended, revealing 113 bags of foreign parboiled rice concealed under bags of cement. The suspects remain in custody pending formal charges.

The command emphasized its commitment to enforcing government fiscal policies and trade guidelines.
