Political Parties Endorse Peace Summit for Osun Elections

On Thursday, a peace summit was held in Osogbo, where fourteen political parties endorsed a peace charter to promote peaceful conduct during the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15. The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were notably absent from the signing ceremony.

The event was organized by the Osun Development Association (ODA) and aimed to encourage a peaceful electoral process. Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term, emphasized the importance of peace and the need for credible elections, stating that no political ambition is worth the blood of citizens.

The peace charter requires political parties and candidates to reject violence, focus on issues-based campaigns, and respect electoral institutions. Dr.

Segun Aina, chairman of the ODA, highlighted the significance of the charter in promoting peaceful elections and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.
