APC and Accord Party Skip Peace Meeting in Osun

Tension is rising in Osun State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Accord Party did not attend a peace meeting organized by the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo on Wednesday. This meeting aimed to bring together political parties, security agencies, and electoral stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electoral process ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The absence of these two major parties has raised concerns among participants about the potential for violence and the overall integrity of the electoral process. Adewale Adebayo, the governorship candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement, described the situation as disturbing and scary, emphasizing that peace agreements require the commitment of all major stakeholders.

Ibrahim Gotan, the Osun State Police Commissioner, urged political actors to conduct themselves responsibly during the election season, while Oluwatoyin Babalola from the Independent National Electoral Commission expressed worries about recent incidents of political violence and called for a focus on issue-based campaigns rather than personal attacks.
