Party spokesperson Felix Morka delivered the criticism in a formal statement released Thursday, arguing that Atiku's track record disqualifies him from access to Nigeria's national treasury.

Morka enumerated specific controversies tied to Atiku's tenure as Vice President, including his alleged involvement in the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project scandal, the Siemens bribery case, the William Jefferson matter, and irregularities surrounding Petroleum Technology Development Fund disbursements. The APC framed these incidents as evidence of a pattern rather than isolated events, suggesting a sustained pattern of financial impropriety across multiple administrations.

The party characterised Atiku's previous role as Vice President as accidental, using the phrase to suggest he was unfit even then. This language signals the APC's intent to redefine public perception of Atiku's prior service ahead of the election cycle.
