Borno Commissioner Saina Buba Defends Controversial Remarks

Saina Buba, the Borno State Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Youth Empowerment and Sports, addressed his earlier remarks made during a campaign inauguration event organized by the City Boy Movement. He had warned that those opposing the Babagana Zulum administration would face consequences, specifically stating that the fingers of dissenters would be cut off.

During a press briefing in Maiduguri on Monday, Buba clarified that his comments were directed at All Progressives Congress (APC) members from the north-east, not opposition members. He lamented that his statement was misinterpreted, asserting that the meeting was solely for APC members and aimed at promoting economic empowerment among party loyalists.

Buba emphasized that his statement was figurative, indicating that welfare packages would be limited to loyalists. He expressed no regret for his comments and stated that as the 2027 election campaign progresses, attacks from the opposition should be expected, asserting that there is no opposition in Borno as the APC will secure all elective positions.
