APC Consults on Consensus Candidates for Upcoming Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has initiated consultations with stakeholders to explore the possibility of adopting consensus candidates for the forthcoming gubernatorial and national assembly elections. This move is intended to enhance internal cohesion within the party and minimize disputes that often arise during primary elections.

Nze Chidi Duru, the Deputy National Organizing Secretary of APC, indicated that while the party is inclined towards a consensus arrangement, it will not inhibit aspirants from participating in the primaries of their choice. Duru emphasized that this approach aligns with democratic practices globally.

He also noted that incumbents typically enjoy the first right to seek re-election within a democratic system, and this principle applies to governors who have completed their first term in office. The arrangement is designed to encourage officeholders to perform better, allowing voters to assess their performance in their respective states.
