APC loses minister of defence’s polling unit to PDP in Jigawa by-election

In a surprising turn of events during the by-election in the Kofar Arewa Primary School polling unit in Babura, Jigawa State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious over the All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP secured 308 votes, while the APC managed only 112 votes, resulting in a local defeat for the Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, who is a senior member of President Tinubu's cabinet and a prominent APC chieftain.

Despite the tight security measures in place, the minister left the scene without speaking to the press after casting his vote. The election was largely peaceful, with robust security deployment by the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, and Nigeria Immigration Service.

Despite the high voter turnout and peaceful conduct, the outcome suggests a strong civic interest in the contest.
