Pantami Urges APC to Ensure Fair Primaries in Gombe

Isa Pantami, the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the credibility of its governorship primaries in Gombe State will significantly impact public confidence in Nigeria's democratic process. Speaking to journalists on Saturday, May 9, during the screening of APC governorship aspirants held at the Kaduna State Governor's Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, Pantami stressed the need for the party to conduct transparent and fair primaries to retain the confidence of its members and the electorate.

He criticized the alleged consensus arrangement favoring Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, vowing to resist any unfair practices. Pantami described the screening process as encouraging and friendly, while also highlighting the importance of independent assessments of performance in public office.

He noted that the APC must prioritize grassroots politicians to strengthen the party's credibility and avoid manipulation in the electoral process. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and governorship aspirant from Bauchi, also commented on the screening process.
